The Difference between Himalayan Salt Lamps and Selenite Lamps
Most people have heard of Himalayan Salt Lamps these days but, just as you thought you had your crystals sorted, along comes Selenite! Actually, to be accurate, Selenite has been around for half a million years or more.
Selenite is amongst the largest crystals in the world. One example, found in Mexico, weighed in at an astonishing 55 tonnes and was 33 feet long.
As both are ancient crystals it's not surprising that both Himalayan Salt and Selenite offer some similar health benefits; they are both calming and meditative and can help you sleep better. However, the properties are quite different and each is suited to particular situations.
Himalayan Salt Lamps and Selenite Lamps look different for starters. Himalayan Salt is pink, orange or red and emits a lovely warm glow; Selenite Lamps are a gorgeous pearly white, almost opaque, and give off a soft white light.
Salt Lamps are very often used as a natural air purifier because they are hygroscopic; that means they attract water molecules from the air which, in turn, trap contaminants such as dust and bacteria. The other amazing thing about Himalayan Salt Lamps is that they can generate negative ions and that is hugely beneficial for our health.
We are over-exposed to electromagnetic pollution (EMF) these days due to increasing number of gadgets we have in our homes and offices. TVs, white goods, mobile phones, computers and more all contribute to this haze of potentially dangerous ElectroSmog. EMF is made up of positive ions.
By placing Himalayan Salt Lamps around your living and work spaces you are generating the negative ions needed to counteract the effects of EMF.
Interestingly, Selenite Lamps are neither hygroscopic or generate negative ions. However, they are considered rich in cleansing and healing abilities and can clear negative energy. They can balance your emotions and clear your head and are perfect for meditation.
Selenite is also used in wand form for aura cleansing and clearing negative energy from the home. Many people swear by the use of Selenite to treat headaches. When it's brought on by stress or tension, a headache is essentially an energy blockage. Placing a piece of Selenite on your forehead can bring relief.
If you are one of the many people who think Himalayan Salt and Selenite basically do the same job, we've just thrown a huge spanner in the works! However, there's a simple solution; just buy one of each and you've got everything covered!
