Experience The Benefits Of The Ocean In Your Bathroom
Have you ever noticed how much better you feel after a dip in the ocean? Refreshed, relaxed but also invigorated - there's nothing quite like it! Whilst it may not be quite the same as a trip to the beach, you can recreate the healing effects of salt immersion in your own home.
You may already be using delicious Himalayan pink salt on your food but did you know you can also add it to the tub? Brimming with goodness, a regular salt bath* can help with everything from soothing aches and pains to boosting your essential mineral levels.
Balneotherapy is not new; salt baths have been used for thousands of years to treat all sorts of ailments and diseases. In fact, it was Hippocrates who first discovered the healing abilities of seawater. He noticed that regular immersion cured both pain and infection in the hands of fisherman.
Enjoying a salt bath at home is easy; all you need is a bag of 100% natural Himalayan Bath Salts
To enjoy the full benefits of a salt bath there are two things you need to get right: the water temperature and the ratio of salt to water. Generally, we recommend adding half a cup of salt to a warm, not hot, bath. Ideally, the water will be close to body temperature, about 37° Celsius.
Relax in the bath for 20 to 30 minutes. Try and make the environment as calm as possible by avoiding bright/artificial light. After your bath, rest quietly for 30 minutes and rehydrate with pure water or herbal tea.
Now let's take a look at the many benefits of a Himalayan salt bath:
The Chill Factor
Most people would agree that a warm bath of any kind is very soothing. Adding Himalayan salt really adds to the experience, leaving you feeling calm and relaxed. Medical research shows that a mineral bath offers amazing stress relieving benefits. It regulates the stress hormones and promotes deep relaxation, whilst also improving concentration.
One of the major benefits of a salt bath is that it will really help ease aches and pains. For anyone suffering from arthritis, sore muscles or stiff joints, a Himalayan pink salt bath is a must. It's not just the soothing effect of the warm water; scientific research in 2012 showed that salt bathing actively reduced inflammation.
You can further boost the pain relieving qualities of a salt bath by adding a few drops of essential oil, such as Rosemary, Peppermint or Clove.
Our bodies are complex machines that require the right balance of essential vitamins and minerals. Today's hectic lifestyle and processed food diet often leave us lacking in some of those. Himalayan pink salt is mineral-rich so, when you soak in a salt bath, your body will take what it needs through dermal absorption.
Himalayan pink salt contains calcium, magnesium, iron, copper, iodine, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, selenium, sodium and zinc.
Good Stuff In, Bad Stuff Out
Whilst soaking up all those beneficial minerals your body will also be encouraged to expel all the nasties. These days we are bombarded by toxins; some studies suggest we come into contact with up to 2 million toxic chemicals a day.
If we don't detox on a regular basis we could be leaving ourselves open to all sorts of diseases, including cancer. Soaking in a Himalayan salt bath removes many of those toxins through reverse osmosis.
Remember Hippocrates and those fishermen? Salt has amazing antibacterial, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties and can quickly heal cuts and scrapes, along with skin conditions such as eczema and acne.
A salt bath will also soothe painful, itchy insect bites and blisters, especially if you add a few drops of Tea Tree Essential Oil.
The moist vapours from your salt bath also offer highly therapeutic benefits. Firstly, by taking deep breaths in through your nose, and slowly out through your mouth, you will experience an amazing sense of calm and peace. It's a great way to de-stress.
It will also help clear your sinuses and treat acute and chronic respiratory problems. A chesty cough, blocked nose, allergies and sinus infections are all very good reasons for enjoying a salt bath. Try adding a few drops of Eucalyptus Essential Oil.
Get your Bath On!
Not only will you experience all those wonderful benefits from taking a regular Himalayan salt bath, but you'll also sleep like a baby afterwards! Plan to enjoy your bath just before bed and enhance the experience by adding a few drops of Lavender Essential Oil or a pure calming blend to the tub.
