Essential Oils To Fight The Signs Of Ageing

There's been plenty of debate lately as to whether essential oils can help fight the signs of ageing. We all know essential oils are fabulous for massage and can help us wind down or perk up, but can they help us do battle with wrinkles and sagging skin?

The good news is that the answer is probably 'yes'! Whilst there is little scientific proof, there is plenty of historical and anecdotal evidence to support the theory.

Essential Oils and Crocodile Manure

Let's start with that fabulous Queen of Egypt, Cleopatra. She has long held a reputation for being one of the most beautiful women in the world. And guess what? She used essential oils. In fact, she was so enamoured with their qualities that she opened her very own spa near the Dead Sea.

Jasmine, rose and patchouli were amongst the Queen's favourites, although it is rather concerning that she also used mudpacks containing crocodile manure!

Throughout time, through Egypt, China and India, essential oils were used for not only ceremony and religious reasons, but also for medicinal and beauty purposes. Over time the use of these oils spread throughout the world, providing the knowledge we have today.

So which essential oils offer the most benefits for ageing skin?

Jojoba Oil

Yes, Jojoba Oil is considered to be an essential oil. Probably one of the most hydrating oils in the world, it is packed full of vitamins, silicon, copper, chromium and zinc. Jojoba Oil is noncomedogenic, which means it won't block your pores. It is anti-bacterial and will naturally slow down the signs of ageing by smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles.

But that's not all; a study done in Italy showed that jojoba oil stimulates collagen synthesis, which is a major plus for older skin.

Yes, we know this essential oil smells fabulous but it does a lot more besides. It can reduce the appearance of age spots and sunspots, even out skin tone, protect skin cells, reduce acne blemishes and fight wrinkles.

Studies prove that Frankincense Essential Oil can actually tone and lift the skin to give a more vibrant and youthful appearance.

Good old Lavender Essential Oil; it's just so versatile and is definitely a must-have in both your First Aid kit and beauty kit. Lavender is the #1 oil for treating any sort of skin condition so it makes sense that it can also help fight the signs of ageing.

We hear a lot about 'free radicals' these days and how they can speed up the ageing process. Free radicals include chemicals, pollutants, toxins and other nasties in the environment. To fight free radical damage we need antioxidants and guess what? Lavender Essential Oil is stuffed full of them!

Lavender oil, either on its own or mixed with aloe vera or coconut oil, is perfect for healing skin conditions, reducing the appearance of scars, hydrating the skin and reducing lines and wrinkles.

So there you have it; adding selected pure essential oils to your beauty regime will help you fight off the ageing process so why not give it a go?
